Soon we will be announcing the day/time/place of the annual Oya No Kai
General Meeting. At this meeting we generally go over what we have
accomplished over the past year, what our goals are for the next year,
and most importantly we elect new Board Members.

Our current Board is as follows:
Myself - President 5th grade & 8th grade
*Sarah Stephens - Vice President 2nd grade & 4th grade
*Cathy Zaerr - Secretary Kindergarten & 2nd grade
Julie Nieman - Treasurer Kindergarten
Maya Mori Pre-K & 2nd grade
Kurt Lootens 7th grade & 10th grade
*Angie Tomlinson 2nd grade
*Allison Walcott Pre-K, 4th grade, and 6th grade
*Aimee Virnig 5th grade

Those members with an asterisk are ones whose term is expiring. Some
will be seeking re-election. The election is for a two year term that
begins with our June meeting. Our meetings are generally the 4th
Tuesday of each month with an occasional additional meeting for planning
or other special topics.

Each Board Member has an area of responsibility such as Interns,
Communication, Membership, Liaison to Tabor, Liaison to Grant, etc.
There is work involved for each Board Member, but we also greatly
encourage and support finding help outside the Board in order to get
things done. We are very lucky to have such an incredible network of
volunteers at each and every school and we try to make use of them.

We are looking for people who can look beyond just the needs of each
school and think about the needs of the entire Japanese Immersion
Program, Pre-K through 12. We are looking for people who can plan,
organize, and make things happen. This Fall marks the 20th Anniversary
of the Japanese Immersion Program and we have some big goals in mind for
the next year to celebrate this milestone.

If you think that you might be interested, please feel free to ask
questions of myself or any other Board Member. You may want to consider
attending our May meeting or go to our website and look over the minutes
of recent meetings. If you decide you would like to put your name on
the ballot for election, please let either me, Sarah, or Cathy know.

I hope you will consider being a part of this excellent organization.
