Hi there!
The parade practices are complete and they went very well!
Please read this email carefully if you are wanting to join us next
Wednesday. Thanks!
Here are the details so far:
- Elementary families: you will need to check your student out of
school.
- Please wear Japanese clothing (e.g. kimono, happi coat, yukata,
tshirts with Japanese images or writing on them, Oya No Kai tshirts,
etc.) and/or red t-shirts. There will be a bin of Japanese clothing
that you can borrow in the office the day of the parade that you could
wear over a red or white tshirt; then we will collect all borrowed
clothing in large bags at the end of the parade. Is there someone who
would be willing to share in washing and ironing the dirty clothing,
returning it to Room 205 before June 10 when cleaned? Please let me
know.
- Things to bring: big smiles, water bottle with your name on it,
camera(?), sunscreen.
- Richmond performers were asked to wear red t-shirts, shorts and
bring their own water.
- I am waiting to hear from the Rose Parade Committee as to where we
need to meet, but I do know that we will meet at 12:45pm and will end
on the front lawn of Grant High School between 2:00-2:30pm. Once at
the parade start, the parade volunteers will direct you to the
"Japanese Immersion School" group.
- Here's the map of the area where we will meet: http://www.rosefestival.org/events/juniorparade/2008-JP-Formation-Map.pdf
- Please keep in mind that we may have to move 4 or 5 times so please
enjoy getting to know one another while we wait.
- This is not a field trip. You need to make arrangements for your
student to get to and from the parade.
- You can ride bikes and bring wagons, strollers, etc. Feel free to
decorate them.
- Want a fun craft to make on the weekend? Make a flag for you and
your child to carry. Our themes are Spring & Summer, happy faces,
bright colors, & nature.
- I will have some flags (which our students made!!!) in the office
for you to pick up as you sign out your child, use during the parade,
then give to me at the end of the parade.
- Here is our parade formation: http://www.melcreative.com/paradeformation09.html
(please find your place to stand once there).
- Middle school performers: please wear dark color leggings. If
Melanie is picking you up, please meet her at 12:15pm in the hallway
by the library doors. You will need to find a ride home from Grant High.
- If your children want to walk in the parade, PLEASE make sure that
they have an adult they know whom they can go to in case of a concern
or emergency.
I will email you soon where to meet on 6/3 once I hear from the Rose
Festival committee.
Ganbatte!
Melanie
